Independence Day being observed with simplicity |

ISLAMABAD, Aug 14 (APP) - The nation is observing 64th Independence Day with great fervor and simplicity.President Asif Ali Zardari has directed that there should be no official celebrations of Independence Day on Saturday as the country tries to cope with devastating floods, private news channels reported.The Independence Day celebrations remains simple, but graceful in the wake of flood disaster.
The day began with special prayers in the mosques for the unity, solidarity and prosperity of the country.
The celebration began with a 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and 21-gun salute at all the Provincial Headquarters.
‘Quran Khawani’ (recitations from Holy Quran) would be held for the martyrs of Pakistan Movement for their eternal peace.
No independence day celebration will be held at the Presidency in view of the floods.
The national flags were hoisted on government and private buildings.
Flood
levels are expected to surge even higher along parts of the already
dangerously overflowing River Indus, with the National Disaster
Management Authority (NDMA) saying “major peaks” were expected next
week in Punjab and Sindh provinces.
